Who can become faculty? Specialist Obstetricians (FRANZCOG) GPs with Advanced Skills in Obstetrics (DRANZCOG Adv/ARANZCOG Adv P) How faculty engagement works Faculty engagement is by nomination from an existing faculty member and must be approved by the Program Director and the CSDS Director. Faculty contributions are remunerated in line with CSDS arrangements. What is MEP? The Maternity Emergency Program (MEP) is an interprofessional immersive simulation-based training program delivered as two courses, supporting maternity clinicians to strengthen knowledge, skills and team-based responses to maternity emergencies. MEP Foundation Designed for new midwives and junior doctors, with a softer introduction to simulation and scaffolded learning through case discussion, skills stations and immersive simulation. MEP Advanced Designed for maternity staff with extensive maternity-service experience, using immersive simulations, skill stations and debriefing exercises selected around participant learning needs. Nomination requirements All nominations must be submitted for approval and include the core documentation below. Faculty application form Complete the MEP faculty application form as part of the nomination package. Application form can be accessed below. Current CV Provide a current curriculum vitae with the application. Certified evidence Include certified copies of relevant qualifications and registration documents. Expression of interest The CSDS faculty callout also invites interested clinicians to contact the faculty team directly to discuss joining the pathway. Minimum eligibility requirements Facilitators must be able to demonstrate experience presenting, teaching at skills stations and creating a supportive debriefing environment. Midwives Current registration as a Midwife with AHPRA. At least 3 years postgraduate experience in a birthing environment or Midwifery Group Practice model. Staff specialist obstetricians Primary medical degree acceptable to the Medical Board of Australia. RANZCOG fellowship. Specialist registration in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Medical Board of Australia. Evidence of qualifications and registration or eligibility for registration. GP obstetricians with advanced skills Primary medical degree acceptable to the Medical Board of Australia. Fellowship of RACGP and/or ACRRM. Specialist registration as a General Practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia. Current ARANZCOG Advanced Procedural training with evidence of recency of practice and advanced skills recognition. Certified proof of qualifications and registration. Training pathway The following steps describe the pathway for clinicians progressing toward MEP faculty status. Attend MEP Advanced as a participant — Attend a CSDS-facilitated Maternity Emergency Program Advanced course. Complete Technical Simulation Training — Complete the online learning component of Technical Simulation Training (TST). Complete debriefing education — Attend Fundamentals of Debriefing (FOD) or an equivalent debriefing course. Attend the MEP train-the-trainer course — Complete the MEP train-the-trainer course delivered online. Shadow experienced faculty — Gain practical experience alongside existing faculty before taking on regular delivery. Maintain faculty status — Facilitate at least two MEP Foundation or MEP Advanced courses each year.
